Teaching Philosophy

Throughout this semester I have done a lot dealing with my teaching philosophy. I have thought about it, changed it, considered different ones, and realized mine.

The funny thing is, when I was forced to really thing about what kind of teacher I wanted to be, it came right to me. In my Introduction to Education class we did a project dealing with clay. My teacher said, take this block of clay, sit down with some music, and think about what kind of teacher you want to be. So I did.

Honestly, at first I was like why am I doing this? seriously. I already know what kind of teacher I want to be, an Existentialist. & that is when I realized that I already knew what is was.

An Existentialist teacher is one that understands that her students all learn and test differently. I understand that my students need individual care and attention in order to find out what the best way of teaching them is. I do not believe that students are this big lump sum that we teach all at once and then expect them to understand. As teacher, we need to take the time to really get to know each students and see what the best way for them to benefit within our classrooms is.
